In our native places we feel so many problems, hazards and various disasters. These disasters, day by day, causes disadvantages of our communities. But it is a reality that we’ve few solutions. We use local resources to discover the wat of solutions. It is to identify the challenge community people and solve problems through group awareness and learning procedure. After the group learning approach all the group members practice it to their own family and enjoy benefit and result. It spray out by gossiping with learning sharing one to another. Other villagers and native yet not participating directly group activities but they are enjoying the learning result & impact. These highlighted learning sharing we treat as Transformational Community Development (TCD).
Bangladesh Social Service (BSS) is working for the people who are living in the most remote area. The native people of this area are disadvantaged and marginalized. Most of the people are poor. Some of them are from Indigenous (tribal) communities. According to the community observation these people are socially weak, politically powerless and economically vulnerable. They are living hand to mouth and have no financial ability to sustain economi solvencies. BSS is implementing Savings Accountability and Literacy (SALT) Training program for these vulnerable groups. These native people making their group by 15-20 people from a community / village. The main theme is to germinate capital for the group member and to develop the capacity on progressive financial utilization of their little bit resource and ability. These SALT groups are different from other groups. All the groups member work in a team by engaging of member in savings and loan collection. They keep their savings in their group. Any group member can take lend money from their group and refund money with interest. These help them to get profit
BSS is very much concerned for widow empowerment. Our Widow Empowerment Project is one of the new interventions of BSS. Through the program implementation BSS realizes that in our community the widows are most valueless and vulnerable to the family and community. Women have a lot of contribution to family, children, taking care of asset. But they are not owner and always away from decision making. Other hand her son gets priority instead of her. Most of the time females only sacrifice for family and community. It is the reality that a woman is always powerless without her husband. After the death of her husband a widow became more vulnerable. The reality is that in this time widow become neglected by other family member. Most often they suffer from food clothes, shelter but nobody cares them. BSS took initiative to serve these vulnerable widows. BSS have few branches / area office in 08 districts and continuing its development activities for the communities. BSS have a sector and separate room for them. In every week they meet here and pass their time with recreation. BSS provide them lunch one time in a week and enjoy as a homogeneous fellowship widow for mental refreshment. BSS provides them monthly food like rice, egg, oil, dal etc & occasionally gift. BSS are also doing various training for widows such as WASH, homestead gardening, pig & goat rearing, beef fattening training for sustainability. They have prepared themself for captioned IGA & micro enterprise activities. It will help them to manage a happy life and establish their permanent food security for future.
At the very beginning BSS took strategy plan to support the orphan children. Now BSS collected 11 children who are drop out from their family and society.
