Field analysis by BSS has revealed that women in rural and remote areas face limited income opportunities and are unable to achieve financial self-reliance. Most women have no access to jobs in garments or factories, while Muslim women, following purdah, cannot easily visit urban markets for tailoring services.

To address this challenge, BSS selects interested women from each village or neighborhood and provides short-term (3 months) and long-term (6 months) sewing training. After training, sewing machines are distributed at half price. This enables women to work from home while providing nearby communities with accessible tailoring services.

Currently, across 12 upazilas in 3 districts, 360 women have been engaged in this income-generating occupation. They use their earnings to support their families, invest in their children’s education, and improve their household livelihoods.

Future Plan: BSS aims to establish a business and marketing network for trainees, incorporate digital and remote training, and provide financial and advisory support to foster their growth as entrepreneurs.
