The
Widow Empowerment Project implemented by Bangladesh Social Service (BSS) has
opened a new horizon of hope for 52 marginalized widows who were previously
deprived of government support. Each week, the women gather in a safe and
compassionate space to share their sorrows, life experiences, and emotions,
offering one another comfort, healing, and renewed inner peace. These regular
gatherings help ease emotional distress and restore a sense of belonging. Once a
week, the widows jointly prepare and enjoy nutritious, protein-rich meals of
their choice. In addition, they receive essential food items—rice, lentils,
cooking oil, and vegetables—from the BSS Ghoraghat campus to take home, where
they are now treated with dignity and respect within their families. Through income-generating skills
training, the women are earning from home and contributing meaningfully to
household stability. Monthly medical services, opportunities for prayer
according to their faith, and festive gifts such as sarees further restore joy
and self-worth. Kitchen gardening and fruit cultivation have strengthened their
self-reliance and renewed hope for a dignified future. |
