Bangladesh Social Service (BSS) has been implementing the Transformational Community Development (TCD) project to promote the social and economic empowerment of indigenous women in the northern region of Bangladesh. The project is being implemented across six upazilas in the Dinajpur and Naogaon districts, benefiting a total of 1,470 women from indigenous communities. Historically, indigenous women in these regions have remained socially and economically marginalized, with limited participation in income-generating activities, confining them to low-income levels. To address these challenges, BSS has adopted a comprehensive, community-centered approach, identifying key issues and implementing innovative solutions that are subsequently transferred as best practices to neighboring communities. The project has identified six major areas of intervention, each addressing a specific challenge through innovative solutions: 1. Small-scale Agriculture and Productivity Challenges 2. Limited Entrepreneurial Skills and Small Business Participation 3. Health and Nutrition Deficiencies 4. Climate Change and Environmental Vulnerability 5. Financial Inclusion and Savings Deficits 6. Social Empowerment and Leadership Gaps BSS’s TCD project demonstrates a holistic and innovative approach to community development, integrating indigenous women into sustainable livelihoods while fostering social, economic, and environmental resilience. By transferring successful interventions as best practices to neighboring communities, the project not only empowers individual women but also strengthens community capacity, setting a replicable model for inclusive and sustainable development in northern Bangladesh. |
